Jack Rodwell is probably my favorite play for Everton, and he’s definitely beginning to look like one of the best young players England has to offer. After not getting a call up to the senior team for the friendly against Hungary, the 19-year old captained the U-21 team to a 2-0 win over Uzbekistan.
Rodwell played just 60 minutes Tuesday, but his impact was enough to earn Man of the Match honors.
“The biggest pat on the back I could give Jack was to give him the armband,” said U-21 manager Stuart Pearce. “I asked him to give me the performance of a captain, and he certainly did.”
Rodwell should be fresh enough for the kick off of the Everton Premiership season Saturday at Blackburn.
