Rodwell to English senior team?

Stuart Pearce, the manager of England’s U-21 squad, believes that Jack Rodwell is about to break into the senior English squad. Pearce also serves in a brain trust of sorts for Three Lions boss Fabio Capello.

Rodwell, who had a dynamic season last year for Everton, became a YouTube sensation with long distance strikes and the game-sealing goal against Manchester United in the Premiership last season. The 19-year old’s form has continued into the preseason this year, and Pearce was in the stands for Wednesday’s match vs. Everton Chile.

Rodwell, who joined Everton’s youth program at the age of seven, is expected to be one of the leading members of the English youth for the next World Cup. The midfielder has played mostly a defensive role for the U-21 team, but Rodwell is expected to be moved into a more attacking role this season for Everton.
