It’s been an absolutely awful year for Portsmouth, and things aren’t appearing to get much better. Last night, Pompey fell 4-0 to D.C. United, a team that currently ranks as the worst in Major League Soccer.
The match was marked by a certain amount of surliness as dirty play, cards and arguing persisted throughout the evening. Perhaps, some ugliness should have been expected. The match was played in weather that was inching into triple digits, Portsmouth had a flight cancelled and was forced to travel on the same day they played, and did so without their uniforms arriving (they would play in D.C. United’s white kits). Oh, and by the way, Pompey entered with just 15 players healthy enough to suit up.
This wasn’t the first flight foul up that Portsmouth faced on their preseason tour either. It took the club nearly two days to make it from England to San Diego for their first match against Mexican side Club America.
Pompey is coming off an absolutely dreadful Premiership campaign that saw the team get put into administration, lose most of their top players, and so ownership change hands five times.
