Everton improved to 4-0 this preseason as they defeated Championship side Preston North End, 3-0.
Louis Saha and Jermaine Beckford supplied the scoring for the Toffees against David Moyes’ former club. All three scores were tallied in the second half. Beckford, a new signing who had spent his career in League One for Leeds United, scored a pair of goals.
Beckford opened the scoring with a goal in the 56th minute. Released on a through ball off the head of Phil Jagielka, the former Leeds man calmly finished to put the Toffees up 1-0.
Saha, who weathered an unlucky first half, finally found the back of the net in the 67th minute. The Frenchman let loose a shot from 18 yards out.
Beckford and Saha would connect for the final score of the match in the 70th minute. Saha chipped the ball into the box, and Beckford volleyed home the goal from eight yards out.
Everton, who had a multitude of opportunities over the course of the match, also used the day to further prepare for the beginning of the regular season next month. After getting married earlier in the month, Mikel Arteta started and played the first half for the Blues. Louis Saha and Jack Rodwell each played significant minutes, getting subbed off in the 71st and 80th minute, respectively. Jagielka and Phil Neville each played the full 90.
The Toffees will next take on Norwich City next Saturday. The Canaries won the League One title last season and will be playing this season in the Championship.
