Castillo to suit up for the Fire?

The Chicago Fire will reveal a designated player signing tomorrow in between a SuperLiga doubleheader at Toyota Park. Rumors are pointing to Mexican malcontent Nery Castillo.

Castillo would certainly be a big help for the Fire, who are struggling mightily in all aspects at the moment. However, questions certainly remain around Castillo, who has struggled mightily to score since leaving Olympiacos in 2007. That said, he is a 26-year old attacking midfielder with certainly more pedigree than the mids on the pitch for the Men in Red.

Now, nothing is known for certain here, and some rumors have point to the return of Temo Blanco, but it just seems a bit odd for the team to pump up a designated player signing if it ends up the familiar face (and gut) of Blanco. Judging from the fact that they’re making this announcement in between SuperLiga matches, I’d guess that it’s a pretty solid bet that the player will be of Mexican descent.
